EA have today announced the latest entry in the long running Need For Speed franchise – Need For Speed The Run. It promises to be “The Race Of Your Life” and will be a more story driven racer, compared to recent Need For Speed titles. Billed as the hottest blockbuster this holiday season, The Run will take players on a heart-pounding cross-country race from San Francisco to New York. Along the way you’ll be lured into an underground world of illicit, high-stakes racing. This is not one for all you budding Sunday drivers out there, the police will be in ‘Hot Pursuit’ of you every step of the way as you cross borders, weave through dense urban traffic, rocket down icy mountain passes and navigate narrow canyons at breakneck speeds.

Need For Speed The Run is being developed by EA Black Box, the same team behind the Skate franchise and fellow NFS stable mates ProStreet and Undercover. Who have made use of other EA created tech – Autolog has been confirmed, hopefully this will be more like the original system integrated into Hot Pursuit as opposed to the 2.0 update seen in Shift 2 Unleashed. The most interesting snippet of info from the press release is that The Run will use DICE’s Frostbite 2 engine, currently wowing the gaming world in the upcoming Battlefield 3 Fault Line Trailers. So expect great physics and stunning visuals, come November 18th 2011, when Need for Speed The Run will be available on PlayStation 3.
