What on earth is going on over at Sony?!

Develop are reporting that, the Executive Producer of The Last Guardian, Yoshifusa Hayama, has resigned from his post as Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment, and gone to join London based developer, Bossa, as Creative Director.

Rumours have been floating around over the last couple of weeks, about the status of Fumito Ueda within Sony and whether or not he was still working on the The Last Guardian. This seemed to have been resolved earlier this week when Ueda-san tweeted that the game was still in Production and that fans should not worry. But what impact will this new departure have on the game?

Sony has employed a company-wide gagging order on publicly discussing Ueda’s employment situation. This could just be an attempt by Sony to stop the rumours, but this doesn’t sound good to me.

Hayama’s new role within Bossa will include being the director of the companies first 3D Social Game. He is looking forward to the challange and say’s that the future of gaming, “is definitely online and thanks to recent developments with Flash 11, there is no reason why a social game can no longer be as visually stunning and as compelling as the big console titles. “Together at Bossa we have plans to bring a plethora of games to Facebook and eventually other appropriate social media channels, which include 3D elements and can be enjoyed by all age and interest groups.”

Bossa’s first Facebook game is called Monstermind. After playing the game for a short while, I can see the appeal of these types of games, they are fun and pretty addictive. Facebook allow’s the game to reach a much larger audience than a normal console game would, but I’d much rather play an A* game like The Last Guardian any day.

Do you guy’s think that this will spell the end of The Last Guardian or will Sony work around these development bumps to deliver a quality product?
