The Spike TV Video Game Awards 2011 took place over the weekend and the one big talking point leading up to the show was the reveal of Sony’s next big exclusive for the PlayStation 3.

I’m always excited about Sony’s exclusive games. They never fail to disappoint, and with the likes of Killzone 3, Motorstorm Apocalypse, inFamous 2, Resistance 3 and Uncharted 3: Drakes Deceptions having all come out during 2011, it’s been a great year for exclusives.

So what’s this new game all about then? If you’ve been following the rumours over the last week, you will already have seen the teaser trailers hinting at some kind of large scale civil unrest and a fungal infection, which takes over the minds of Ants, before growing out of their bodies. Weird!

Luckily Sony didn’t keep us guessing for long, the VGA’s start and we are welcomed in with this amazing trailer.

I was already excited about what this game may be, and within 15 seconds of the trailer starting I see the Naughty Dog Logo, my excitement level has instantly doubled. Naughty Dog have been giving the PlayStation Brand exclusive’s all it’s life, from Crash Bandicoot (PS1), and Jak & Daxter (PS2) to Uncharted (PS3). They are a studio well known for making amazing triple A games, and The Last of Us looks like it could be another.

The EU PlayStation Blog tells us that The Last of Us is a genre-defining experience that blends survival and action elements to tell a character driven story about a population decimated by a modern plague. Abandoned cities are being reclaimed by nature and the remaining survivors are killing each other for food, weapons and whatever they can get their hands on. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a brave, young teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States. Evan Wells, co president of Naughty Dog Inc said “We are excited to finally unveil The Last of Us, a project the team has been working hard on for some time. Naughty Dog’s mission is to change the way people experience videogames. We are confident The Last of Us will take a leap forward in cinematic gaming and storytelling, providing gamers with an experience unlike anything else in the industry.”

After watching the trailer, quite a few times I’m very, very excited for this game. Naughty Dog tick all the boxes for me. It’s clear that this game has a strong I Am Legend/Enslaved vibe about it. I can’t wait to hear more info about this title.

Did you guy’s enjoy the trailer? Are you excited about Naughty Dog’s next hit game? Let us know your thoughts.
