‘God of War: Ascension’ has a multiplayer mode. what game types are available are purely up for speculation but we can confirm via this press statement:

God of War: AscensionTM is a prequel that will show Kratos’ emotional path of redemption whilst detailing the rise of his rage to break free from Ares’ bond.  Epic cinematic storytelling, visceral battles, and blockbuster moments will all be present, along with various enhancements, including a revamped combat system and a brand new online multiplayer mode that combines the brutal gameplay and large-scale battles that God of War is known for to create a competitive experience like never before.”

that it does indeed exist. It will be both local and online and allow upto 8 players at once as you and your character chose an allegiance with a god for all out war. You will be able to customise your avatar, costume and weapon types but by aligning yourself with either; Zeus, Ares, Poseidon or Hades will earn you new items as you appease there appetites for destruction. We are promised a variety of game modes although none have been mentioned as of yet but the game is said to draw on the strength of the single player.

Speaking of the single player, The game, as you maybe aware is a prequel and goes deeper than ever before into Kratos’ tormented past as a mortal. It is set six months after he was tricked into killing his wife and daughter, A young Kratos is forced to fight with madness as he finds himself locked in a “Titan” size dungeon with only furies to keep him company. The Game is said to have a revamped combat system but what that actually means is not known for now. Much to the annoyance of many readers, I say here’s hoping the QTE element isn’t removed.

I am really excited for this game, as those of you that know me will understand, and I cannot wait to see what else we can expect from the Live streaming event at 16:00 today (03/04/2012). Until then here is another screenshot and some concept artwork.
