Throughout the years PlayStation marketing teams have always taken an off-beat approach to their work. Many of these advertisements came from the creatives at the French branch of the TBWA ad agency, who still work with sony on projects such as the Gran Turismo Academy last year.

Sex sells, so I’ve heard, and I think that was in the mind of the creative who produced this 2-page magazine spread. The emphasis was put on the PS Vita’s rear touchpad, and of course this woman’s 4 breasts.

These two advertisements featuring the crown of thorns and Lara Croft in a Christ like stance enraged Catholics in Italy. “This time they’ve gone too far” was the reaction of one news reporter. Sony Computer Entertainment Italia stated that the “spirit of the message was misunderstood” and axed the ad.

PlayStation advertising has become somewhat tamer lately, however will we see a new breed of quirky advertisements emerge with the release of the PlayStation 4 later this year? Not long to find out!
