Well hello there. I’m back with the top 10 most anticipated games of 2014 – part duex. In case you missed it, here’s a link to part 1. So, lets get to it.

5) The Order: 1886
One of the PlayStation exclusives of 2014 and a game that has really piqued my interest. The Order: 1886 is set an alternate version of the industrial revolution where the Order, an ancient society of Knights, stemming from King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, that are sworn to defend the human race from the human-animal hybrids (werewolves?) that threaten their existence. They fight an ongoing war that has raged for centuries that the hybrids have been winning until now. With the Industrial Revolution man has begun to develop advanced technologies that are beginning to turn the tide of this ancient war.

While only a small bit of the game has shown to date, what we have seen looks beautiful. The game is being developed by Red Dawn, the folks that made the God of War PSP games, and while moving from PSP games development to console games development might worry some, it looks like the guys have things covered so far. Also, as a PlayStation exclusive it has the added bonus of being able to fully utilies the consoles capabilities which should mean awesome graphics. What really has me excited though is the plot. It looks like it’s going to be a very story driven game with a well thought out and extensive history and hopefully put together in such a way that the player can immerse themselves in the gameplay. It has a very steampunk feel to it from what I’ve seen so far and some of the weaponry and gadgets that may be available to the game could provide some really fun gameplay.

Currently the Order: 1886 is scheduled for an Autumn release date. Please enjoy the trailer below which is render using in game graphics and gameplay.

4) inFamous: Second Son
Rocking its way exclusively to the PlayStation in 2014 is the third game from the inFamous franchise; inFamous: Second Son. Set about seven years after the events of inFamous 2 and based on the good karmic ending from that game, Second Son follows a new protagonist, Delsin Rowe, a Conduit that is being hunted by the newly established Depart of Unified Protection (DUP) who’s purpose is to handle “any sort of bio-terrorism to ensure that the events of Empire City and New Marais don’t repeat themselves”.

Gameplay for inFamous: Second Son looks like it is keeping slightly with the tradition of the previous two games in that it is an open world in which the player can jump, free run, and glide (or something equivalent) to get around, and also choose to be the good or bad guy gaining positive or negative karma… the difference for this game though is that Delsin isn’t an electrically charged Conduit like Cole from inFamous 1 and 2. Delsin has the ability to absorb other Conduits powers which is going to allow for (hopefully) a pretty interesting variety in possible gameplay mechanics. So far we’ve seen Delsin’s Smoke and Neon powers and I’m looking forward to seeing what other powers Delsin can harness.

Hitting shelves March 21st 2014, I’ll definitely be popping down my local game shop to pick up a copy. If you’re still unsure, go replay inFamous 1 and 2 and check out the trailer for inFamous: Second Son.

3) Tom Clancy’s The Division
Rolling in a number 3 is a game that I’d like to think most people are really looking forward to… The Division is an open world RPG set in the not too distant future where a massive epidemic has caused the collapse of society, and is one of my most anticipated next gen titles. It supports online co-op play where you and your friends venture through a ravaged New York city, as Division Agents, trying to restore order to society, but most of all, survive.

Excited yet? The Divison is going to have epic gameplay features if it’s done right and since it’s being developed and published by the good people at Ubisoft, I’ve no doubt it will be done right. Players will level up, customise characters and gear, and complete a main story while also fighting other players in open world PVP combat. According to the developers nearly everything in the world can be interacted with and environments should adapted realistically to the player thanks to the new Snowdrop engine. It is also one of the new games coming out for next-gen consoles that is incorporating social gaming. A Division app will be available on Android and iOS for the game that will allow players to control a drone in-game that can provide support and help their friends that are currently playing on their consoles.

No release date has been announced for The Division it but it’s pegged for an end of year 2014 release. Expect more information on the Division right here on PlayStation.net as we get it. Here’s a lovely gameplay trailer to keep you interested.

2) Watch_Dogs
One of my most anticipated games of 2013 and now one for 2014, Watch_Dogs is a game that eerily resonates today’s current events and looks set to be one of 2014’s best games. Set in a modern day Chicago, you take on the role of Aiden Pearce, a former thug and extremely skillful hacker who’s criminal past ended with a violent family tragedy. Aiden is bent on finding justice for those events and using the Central Operating System, and network in Chicago that controls most of the city’s technology and stores highly sensitive data on all of Chicago’s residence the player will be able to hack security cameras, doors, gather intel on targets, control traffic lights, and potentially much, much more and all from the palm of Aiden’s hand, Watch_Dogs is set to have some unique and exciting gameplay.

Another Ubisoft title for 2014 (currently Spring) the game is open world and almost looks like an Assassin’s Creed game set in the 21st century. The player can choose a stealth approach to situations or a more aggressive guns blazing assault. One of the cooler features of Watch_Dogs is being able to jump into other player’s games and hack their data for bonuses. Have a look at the gameplay video below to get a good idea of what to expect from the game, then get ready to preorder it.

1) Metal Gear Solid V
Metal Gear?! It had to be Metal Gear Solid in the number one spot though, didn’t it? For this I include Ground Zeroes and the Phantom Pain, the complete package if you will. I imagine everyone has a good idea of the game will be about but I’ll give a quick overview anyway. Ground Zeroes will be like the prologue to the Phantom Pain, similar to the Tanker mission is Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. It is set months after the events of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and sees Snake (Big Boss) an American controlled site in Cuba called Camp Omega. Snake is searching for Paz Ortega Andrade who survived Peace Walker and is trying to rescue a young boy called Chico Libre. At some point in the game, Snake’s motherbase is attacked by XOF and Snake falls into a coma… About nine years later, Snake awakes from this coma and the Phantom Pain begins. Snake travels to Afghanistan to track down the men responsible for destroying his motherbase and somewhere along the way a Metal Gear will come into the plot.

I know there’s not really a need to list the reasons to look forward to a Metal Gear Solid game, but I’ll list a few anyway just for fun:

  • It’s a Metal Gear Solid game.
  • The stealth gameplay you’ve come to love from the Metal Gear Solid series.
  • The new day / night time system seems pretty cool. Allowing a players to choose the best approach for a mission.
  • They’ve made it open world. This seems a strange concept to a Metal Gear Solid title but I’m hoping it will prove to be awesome.
  • Using vehicles to get around. I know we got to use vehicles in other Metal Gear Solid games (Rex in MGS IV was particularly cool) but now with the open world getting around will be a lot easier.

There are plenty more reasons to be excited and even some that I’m not so sure I’m going to like, such as regenerating health (I’m going to miss rationing my rations), but I have faith in Hideo Kojima and the folks at Knomai to do the franchise justice. Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes will be available from March 20th 2014 but the release date for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is yet to be confirmed. For now you’ll have to make do with the gameplay trailer below.

So there you have it. What are your thoughts on the list? Did we miss any games? Would you change the order? Let us know in the comments below!
