Today Capcom have released a video showing off a bit more about the new “Variable System” in the Street Fighter V. It appears that this new system is the replacement for Super Meters that have been around since Street Fighter Alpha. The Variable System can be used in three ways:

  • V-Skill
    • A unique ability for each player. In the case of Charlie and M. Bison, it appears that can absorb / reflect projectiles. This appears to fill part of the V-Meter instead of depleting it.
  • V-Reversal
    • A unique counter attack for each character that uses one bar of the V-Gauge.
  • V-Skill
    • A unique ability that uses the full V-Gauge. We saw this in previous gameplay demos where there is a special effect around the character and, in the case of Ryu, he’s gloves have electricity swirling around them. From the looks of things, it allows for easier / different combos and presumably has a slight damage buff.

Finally we see the new Ultra Combos are called Critical Arts now.
