A Brand new trailer for the upcoming Kingdom Hearts games; Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts 3 surfaced at Jump Festa 2015 over the weekend. Take a look below and come back for our feelings after the beat.
For those unaware, The bizarrely titled Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is, as the name suggests, the final iteration of the remix/re-releases of the Kingdom hearts series onto more modern consoles, with this title in particular being the first to grace the current gen systems. It includes the previously 3DS exclusive Dream Drop Distance HD, Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover, which tells a new tale of the Foretellers in HD cinematics and Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep–A Fragmentary Passage, an all new game that takes place after the events of Birth by Sleep.
I have a little bit of a mixed feeling towards this trailer, primarily because of the hype they either intentionally or inadvertently built up in regards to it’s release. Meant to release well over a month ago, they held it back, presumably to instead premiere it at Jump Festa instead, where it would clearly garner a good reaction from it’s audience among the anime, manga and other Japanese titles on display there. And it’s a nice little trailer that does a good job of showcasing the last of the Kingdom Hearts titles while we wait for Kingdom Hearts 3 to finally rear it’s head into our lives, after it’s numbered predecessor released way back in 2006. We see a glimpse of these new side stories that are helping to flesh out the world and add meat to the Kingdom hearts mythos and plenty of footage from Dream Drop Distance HD, which is thankfully looking great with it’s graphical clean up for home console appearance.
While I enjoyed the presentation, I was a little bit disappointed in the Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer shown after 2.8. It showcased some more of the gameplay and new visual style, which is definitely an interesting new look for the series, I was let down in that it was purely gameplay only. With the month long Hiatus and with the facebook page uploading an image like this, anticipation for some more story information and some new character information was surrounding this new trailer in the community.
Ofcourse, I’m not a fool, the game is still heavily under development, with not any sign of a motion of a release date anytime soon and the fact we’re getting another remix/remaster, it’s obvious Square are trying to simply tide us over for a little bit, while game development cycles spin in creating the next big numbered title in one of it’s most popular franchises. And I’ll gladly buy into this, with both 1.5 and 2.5 in my current game collection (2.5 being one of the more recent games I’ve thoroughly loved) 2.8 should provide a good amount of fun to rethread the dream like worlds yet again.
