We went from this…..

…..stalking your enemy in the shadows, before cutting him into several pieces. A nice mix of stealth and murder, to this…..

…..Bayonetta meets Vanquish. This is not what we wanted.

I was incredibly surprised to see that Platinum Games are now in the driving seat of the latest Metal Gear. Don’t get me wrong, they are a great studio and a lot of people love both Bayonetta and Vanquish, but for me their games are all flare and no substance, and that’s just not very Metal Gear.

So what happened between E3 2010 and VGA 2011?

Well Andriasang are report that in fact the E3 2010 version of Rising had been cancelled. Their translation states that “The original Rising got to the point where the staff no longer knew what the core of the game should be. At some point, Kojima said that the project probably would not be able to be completed. However, the staff insisted that it could be done. In the end, they cancelled the project.”

So in stepped Platinum Games. Several Staff members dropped by Kojima Productions for a visit. While they were there they commented on how unfortunate it was that a project with such great potential, was sitting on a hard drive half finished and asked if they could take over.

Platinum Games have confirmed that this is “not part of the Metal Gear Solid series” with Kojima Productions adding “at present, we can’t say more than this”. The only information that we do know is that Platinum Games have rewritten the story and it is now set after Metal Gear Solid 4.

I love the Metal Gear universe, the stories are great and the games are always fun to play. I’ve never got on with any of Platinum Games previous titles but I’m hoping that the lure of Metal Gear can change my mind.
